On February 13, 1998, John Edward Campbell, aged 40, was found dead in Springfield, Ohio. His body was discovered partially submerged in Mad River near the Ohio Edison power plant, located at 2341 West National Road. Campbell had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and the case remains unsolved. Law enforcement conducted an investigation, but no significant leads have been made public since the incident.
Just a few months later, the body of Raymond Kreitzer was also found in Mad River, not far from where Campbell had been discovered. Kreitzer had similarly been shot multiple times. Authorities noted that Campbell and Kreitzer had both lived together in a camper near Mad River, just north of State Route 41, adding a layer of complexity to their deaths. Despite the potential link between these two homicides, investigators have yet to determine whether their deaths were connected or if there was a shared motive behind the murders.
