Crane, along with Damionna Goodall, aged 21, was found shot inside the home, while a third individual, Dashawn Robinson, was critically injured and hospitalized. The Dayton Police Department described the incident as likely drug-related, noting that drugs and cash were found at the scene.
The police believe the motive might have involved robbery, and that the victims were specifically targeted by the assailants. No suspects have been identified so far, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The double homicide was the second and third recorded murders of the year in Dayton. Neighbors reported hearing 10 to 15 gunshots, and multiple shell casings were found at the scene, both inside the home and outside near the front porch. Investigators also looked into whether the Brooklyn Avenue shooting was connected to other incidents, such as shots fired into an apartment building on Catalpa Drive. While evidence has been recovered from both locations, a direct connection has yet to be established by authorities.
DeAndre Crane had a history of involvement in criminal cases, including charges of possession of marijuana, heroin, and cocaine, as well as having weapons under disability. Despite his troubled background, friends and community members gathered at the site after the shooting to leave memorials, including flowers and stuffed animals, in memory of Crane and Goodall. The Dayton Police Department continues to request any information that could assist in solving the case.
