Lajuan DeAngelo Black, Sr., a 37-year-old African American man from Dayton, Ohio, tragically lost his life on June 13, 2021. He was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting incident in the 2700 block of Wentworth Avenue. Black was one of two victims who were shot by Henry Harris, a 32-year-old man from Harrison Township. Harris approached a vehicle with three occupants and fired multiple rounds into the car, striking Black and another victim. Black succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital, while the other victim survived.
Following the incident, Harris was arrested and charged with murder, felonious assault, and discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises. On August 29, 2023, Harris was sentenced to 29 years to life in prison for his crimes.
