On November 9, 2015, 16-year-old Tykeem Eskridge was tragically shot and killed in northeast Columbus, Ohio. The incident took place in the parking lot of the Woodland Express store at the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Argyle Avenue, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Tykeem, who was a student at Northland High School, had entered the store with a male friend shortly before meeting the suspects outside.
There, an exchange of gunfire occurred, ultimately resulting in Tykeem being shot in the head and succumbing to his injuries at the scene.
The Columbus Police Department has indicated that they are searching for two men identified as "persons of interest" in connection with the shooting. According to the police, both Tykeem and the assailants were known to each other. It appears that both parties were armed, and a gunfight ensued that led to Tykeem's death. The suspects were seen fleeing the scene in a silver four-door sedan immediately following the incident. The police have not yet determined what led to the confrontation, but they are continuing their investigation and asking anyone with information to come forward. The authorities have urged anyone who might have information about the case to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
This case marked the 76th homicide in Columbus in 2015, highlighting the city’s challenges with gun violence during that year.
