Summary based on 6 sources
A devoted family man who loved sports and traveling the world, Kenneth John "Kenny" Irlmeier was a man known for his technical skills and his commitment to his loved ones. Born on November 12, 1981, in Carroll, Iowa, to Ronald and Donna Irlmeier, Kenny grew up in the small town of Manning. He was an avid athlete, playing football through his graduation from Manning Community School in 2000 and into college before finding a lasting passion for rugby. His life was one of adventure and dedication, centered around his wife, Karmalita “Kami” Hinojosa, whom he married in 2007, and their three children, Furious, Ransom, and Rogue.

As an Army family, the Irlmeiers moved frequently, living in places from San Antonio, Texas, to Oahu, Hawaii, and even Germany. Kenny’s career was as varied as their travels; he worked in maintenance for the Manhattan, Kansas, airport, for a power company in San Antonio, an air conditioning company in Hawaii, and for the streets and parks departments in Leavenworth, Kansas. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was a member of the Albatross Rugby Club starting in 2004 and played for two years with the Stuttgart Rugby Club in Germany. He shared this love with his children, coaching them in soccer, baseball, and rugby. Above all, he treasured time with his family, whether on jejich global adventures or simply enjoying a new experience together. He even recently took up golf to create more memories with his children.

The afternoon of Tuesday, October 6, 2026, brought a sudden and tragic end to the life of the 44-year-old husband and father. At approximately 4:31 p.m., emergency services in Harker Heights, Texas, received a report of an unresponsive male at the Harker Heights Community Park, a public space located at 1501 East Knights Way. When police and paramedics arrived, they found Kenneth Irlmeier with a gunshot wound.

Despite the efforts of first responders, there was nothing that could be done. A Bell County Justice of the Peace, Gregory Johnson, was notified and officially pronounced Kenneth Irlmeier dead at the scene at 5:35 p.m. The park, typically a place for community recreation, became the center of a homicide investigation in the Central Texas city located about 70 miles north of Austin.

The Harker Heights Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division immediately began investigating the shooting. In their initial statements to the public, police officials described the event as an "isolated incident" and assured the community that there was no ongoing threat. Investigators processed the scene for evidence, but few details about what may have led to the shooting or what occurred in the moments before Kenny was found have been released to the public.

Following his death, Kenny’s family and friends mourned a man who was deeply loved. His funeral services were held back in his Iowa hometown. A visitation and prayer service took place on October 18, 2026, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial the next day at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was laid to rest at Mt. Cavalry Cemetery in Lansing, Kansas. In his memory, a memorial fund was established on behalf of his three children at the First National Bank of Manning.

As of the latest reports in October 2026, the investigation into Kenneth Irlmeier's death is ongoing. No suspects have been named, and no arrests have been made. The Harker Heights Police Department has asked for the public’s help and urged anyone with information about the incident, or who may have witnessed anything suspicious at the community park that afternoon, to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 254-953-5400, option 2.
