Charles Roosevelt Sain, a 33-year-old father of two, was a man of faith who sang in the church choir. Born on July 27, 1993, to Maxcine Sain and the late Theodore Roosevelt Sain, Jr., Charles was known and loved by his family, which included his two daughters, Chelsea and Kelsea, and several siblings. He confessed his hope in Christ at an early age at Clover Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was later a member of St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Bolivar, Tennessee. His life was tragically cut short on the afternoon of Monday, October 5, 2026, in a driveway in Toone, Tennessee.

The Hardeman County Sheriff's Office received a report of a shooting and dispatched deputies to a residence on Simmons Loop at approximately 3:40 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a man, Jatarious Fuller, on the front porch of the home. Inside a vehicle in the driveway, officers discovered Charles Roosevelt Sain slumped over in the front seat. He had sustained two visible gunshot wounds, one to his chest and another to his left arm, and was deceased at the scene.

Fuller, who had also spoken to 911 dispatchers, told investigators at the scene that he had acted in self-defense. According to the arrest warrant, Fuller claimed that Sain had pulled into the driveway, exited his car, and begun banging on the front door. Fuller stated that he looked through a window, saw Sain, and yelled for him to leave or he would shoot him. He then retrieved a handgun from inside the house, went outside, and saw Sain back inside his own vehicle. Fuller alleged that he then walked into the driveway and shot Sain.

After the shooting, Fuller told investigators he reached into Sain’s vehicle to put the car in park and turn off the ignition. He then took the handgun back inside the residence, wrapped it up, and placed it on his bed before authorities arrived. However, the investigation by the Hardeman County Sheriff's Office led to a different conclusion. Based on their findings, investigators determined that Sain was attempting to leave the driveway when the shots were fired.

Based on the evidence gathered, which contradicted the self-defense claim, Jatarious Fuller was arrested. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Authorities have noted that the charges are allegations, and Fuller is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The case is now proceeding through the legal system in Hardeman County.

In the wake of his death, Charles's family mourned their profound loss. His mother, Maxcine, and his daughters, Chelsea and Kelsea, were left to cherish his memory, along with his sisters, Tamara James, Veronica Leak, Twylia Sain, and Latonia Kelly, and his brother, Ashantha Sain. A funeral service to celebrate his life was held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Clover Chapel MB Church, where family and friends gathered to say their final goodbyes. Charles was laid to rest in the church cemetery.
