William Roosevelt Westry, a 43-year-old man, was shot and killed in Las Vegas, Nevada, on the evening of Sunday, October 4, 2026. His life was marked by long-standing ties to the city and several encounters with the criminal justice system. According to court and police records, Westry had a history that included an arrest in 2002 on charges of attempted murder in the shooting of an apartment security guard.
In 2016, he was arrested again and faced a murder charge in connection with a 2012 gang-related slaying, accused of conspiring to kill a rival gang member. News reports from the time of his death indicated that police believed Westry was a member of the Donna Street gang and was himself wanted in connection with another recent murder.
The final moments of Westry’s life unfolded just after 8:05 p.m. in the parking lot of a business in the 300 block of South Decatur Boulevard, near Meadows Lane. He was sitting in the front passenger seat of a parked red Hyundai Sonata with two other men. An argument broke out inside the car, and suddenly, gunfire erupted. The driver of the Hyundai immediately sped away, rushing Westry to University Medical Center’s trauma center. Despite the quick response, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Clark County coroner’s office later determined that he had died from multiple gunshot wounds to his neck and shoulders.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department began investigating the shooting. While officers were still trying to locate the exact crime scene, Westry had already arrived at the hospital. Investigators found the red Hyundai and processed it for evidence. Inside the car, crime scene analysts discovered seven 9mm shell casings and documented seven bullet impacts on the interior of the passenger-side door, indicating the violent and close-quarters nature of the attack.
Detectives interviewed the driver of the car, who was a witness to the shooting. Initially, he told an officer that one or two men had approached the car and fired from outside. However, in a later, more detailed interview, he admitted that the shooter had been the third man inside the vehicle, seated in the back. He identified the man as Levante Davidson, also known as "Boosie." The witness told police that Westry and Davidson had been arguing but that he couldn't recall what the dispute was about. He said he ducked when the shots were fired and did not see the shooting itself.
Crucial evidence came from surveillance video obtained from nearby businesses. The footage captured Davidson entering and leaving the Hyundai before the shooting. In a video from a smoke shop, Davidson could be seen getting out of the rear driver's-side door as the car backed up. He appeared to drop a handgun on the ground, then quickly retrieved it before fleeing the scene on foot. Police reports indicated that they believed Davidson was a member of the rival Northtown Gangsters.
Ten days after the shooting, on October 14, 2026, police located and arrested 32-year-old Levante Davidson. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and charged with one count of open murder with a deadly weapon. According to police records, Davidson had a prior criminal history that included sex crimes against children. He was scheduled for his first court appearance at the Regional Justice Center on October 16, with another hearing set for the following week. As of October 2026, the case against Davidson was proceeding through the court system.
