Lorenzo Antonio Alba, a 32-year-old Hispanic/Latino man from El Paso, Texas, was remembered by loved ones for the moments shared and memories created with him. Those who knew him said they would carry forward memories that reflected his character and spirit. His life was cut short in the early morning hours of September 21, 2026.
That morning, around 6:20 a.m., police were called to a home on the 1700 block of Charlie Smith Drive in East El Paso. Inside, they found Lorenzo Alba deceased.
According to a witness, Alba and his older brother, Jose Luis Garcia, had been drinking and arguing throughout the night. The argument escalated into a physical fight. After the altercation, Alba went to the kitchen while Garcia went upstairs.
Moments later, Garcia came back down holding a rifle. A witness who was present tried to intervene, but Garcia told him to get out of the way. The witness ran outside the house and heard several gunshots. When he went back inside, he found Alba lifeless on the floor with a pool of blood around his head. Garcia asked the witness to come with him before running out of the house and driving away.
Garcia fled in a red Dodge Ram pickup truck that was registered to his brother. As he drove, he called his sister and confessed, allegedly telling her, "I f*ing did it!" and that he was "sorry." In a later call with his sister, which she put on speaker for a detective, Garcia said, "There was no other way out," and repeatedly said he had "fd up."
El Paso police officers located the Dodge Ram in Central El Paso and attempted a traffic stop, but Garcia sped away, initiating a pursuit. The Texas Department of Public Safety joined the chase as it moved onto I-10 East. The pursuit ended in the nearby community of Horizon City when a DPS trooper used a PIT maneuver to stop the truck at the intersection of Desierto Lindo Avenue and Maravillas Street.
Police took Jose Luis Garcia, 40, into custody and charged him with murder. As of September 2026, the case was proceeding through the court system.
