On Friday, April 4, 2003, emergency personnel and investigators were called to a home in the unincorporated suburban community of Rowland Heights, California. Located at 2348 South Arcdale Avenue, the residential setting was an otherwise quiet neighborhood of single-family homes situated in the eastern San Gabriel Valley. Inside, authorities discovered seventy-one-year-old Victoria Yu Lim deceased.

Lim was an Asian woman who resided in the area. Following the discovery of her body, personnel from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner took jurisdiction over the remains to determine how she died. The coroner ultimately classified her death as a homicide, but the exact mechanism of death was categorized in public records simply as other, and officials did not publicly release the specific nature of her injuries.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Lim's death fell to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau, the primary agency responsible for investigating violent crimes in the county's unincorporated areas. Detectives examined the residence on South Arcdale Avenue and sought to reconstruct her final movements and identify anyone who had contact with her in the days and hours leading up to the incident.

Rowland Heights, bordered by the Puente Hills and nestled near Hacienda Heights and Industry, experienced relatively low rates of violent crime compared to more heavily populated urban centers in the county. However, across Los Angeles County as a whole, 2003 was a demanding period for regional law enforcement, with hundreds of homicide cases stretching countywide detective resources. In Lim's case, authorities released few details regarding a potential motive or whether there were signs of forced entry, burglary, or a confrontation.

In the days following the killing, detectives pursued potential leads, but no suspects were publicly identified and no arrests were announced. The lack of immediate answers left neighbors on the quiet residential street searching for understanding, while the legal investigation faced the challenge of a case with minimal publicly available forensic evidence or witness accounts.

More than two decades later, the killing of Victoria Yu Lim remains unsolved. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department continues to maintain responsibility for the cold case. Investigators have periodically urged anyone who may have lived near South Arcdale Avenue in the spring of 2003 or who possesses information regarding Lim's associates or final interactions to come forward with tips that could help resolve the inquiry.
