On May 2, 2007, 28-year-old Arturo Perez Ibarra was found dead in his apartment at the Birchcroft Apartments in Charlotte, North Carolina. The discovery was made by his roommate, who returned home around 9 p.m. to find Ibarra deceased. At the time, the police did not immediately release details regarding how Ibarra was killed. In addition to the investigation, law enforcement was looking for Ibarra's missing truck, a red 1999 Ford F-150, which had a large water tank in the back that may have
been removed. Authorities sought public assistance in locating the vehicle and gathering any additional information that could help solve the case.
The circumstances surrounding Ibarra's death were one of several violent incidents occurring in Charlotte that year, contributing to the city's growing homicide rate in 2007.
