In the quiet neighborhood of Pennsauken, New Jersey, the morning of September 16, 2026, was shattered by a tragic act of violence that claimed the life of 59-year-old Janet Camacho. A beloved mother, grandmother, and wife, Camacho was a cherished member of her community, known for her warm smile and kind heart. Her life was abruptly cut short in a shocking incident that unfolded on the front steps of a home on Bethel Avenue, leaving her family and friends in a state of profound grief and disbelief. Those who knew her remember a vibrant woman with a passion for gardening, a love for Korean dramas, and a deep devotion to her family.

The grim events began to unfold at approximately 9:01 a.m. when Pennsauken police responded to reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival at the 4400 block of Bethel Avenue, they discovered Janet Camacho on the front steps of the residence with a gunshot wound. Emergency services rushed her to Cooper University Hospital, but tragically, her injuries were too severe, and she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. The scene quickly escalated as police were notified that an armed male suspect was still inside the house, leading to the establishment of a perimeter and the deployment of the Camden County Sheriff's Emergency Response Team. An armored vehicle and a robotic dog were utilized as law enforcement took defensive positions around the home, with some neighborhood residents being escorted to safety.

After a tense standoff, law enforcement made entry into the residence at approximately 10:37 a.m. and found the suspect deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect was identified as Janet Camacho's 60-year-old brother, Daniel Lopez, also a resident of Pennsauken. The investigation by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide, with Lopez having shot his sister before taking his own life. While the official investigation is ongoing, neighbors have suggested that the tragedy may have been a result of a dispute over the impending sale of the family home. The case is a somber reminder of the devastating impact of familial disputes and violence, leaving a community to mourn the loss of a cherished member and grapple with the shocking nature of her death at the hands of her own brother. As the suspect died by suicide, there will be no arrests, trial, or conviction in this case.
