Jonah Rivera, a 38-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically died on January 26, 2018, in Sabine Pass, Texas. Rivera was fatally shot during a home invasion in the early hours of the morning. Port Arthur, was arrested and later indicted on a first-degree murder charge in connection with Rivera's death. Trejo was accused of firing the shot that killed Rivera. Additionally, Trejo faced a felony forgery charge for attempting to cash a stolen check five days after the murder. However, in October 2019, the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office dropped the murder charges against Trejo due to insufficient evidence. Trejo remained in custody for the forgery charge.
