Juan A. Vicente, a 38-year-old man, was fatally shot on the afternoon of September 19, 2026, in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. Shortly after 4:30 p.m., Vicente was in an alley in the 3000 block of West 18th Street when a vehicle pulled up near him. Someone inside the vehicle opened fire, striking Vicente multiple times before the vehicle left the area.
Vicente suffered gunshot wounds to his face, stomach and leg.
Emergency personnel transported him to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition as medical staff attempted to treat the extensive injuries. He later died from the wounds. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently confirmed his identity.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been publicly explained. Investigators have not announced whether Vicente had been specifically targeted, what may have motivated the attack, or whether there was any interaction between him and the occupants of the vehicle before the gunfire began.
