On April 9, 2010, 17-year-old Reginald Leverette was shot and killed while walking down a street in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina. The shooting occurred in the afternoon, around 3 p.m., on Catherine Simmons Avenue, near West Charlotte High School. According to witnesses, the assailant drove up in a car and fired multiple shots, hitting Leverette in the side. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The incident is believed to have been the result of an ongoing dispute between Leverette and the shooter. Authorities identified the vehicle involved as a green Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Marquis with tinted windows. Despite efforts to locate the shooter, the case remains unsolved. Community members expressed their sorrow and frustration over the senseless loss of life, calling for an end to the violence in the neighborhood.
