In the early morning hours of July 13, 2026, a wave of violence swept through the quiet communities of Northampton County on Virginia's Eastern Shore, leaving two women dead and several others wounded. One of the victims was 37-year-old Rebecca Knox of Nassawadox, a woman described as an outgoing, fun-loving, and amazing person. Her life was cut short in a shooting spree that authorities have attributed to her boyfriend, 45-year-old Trevor Claude Henriques. The tragic events unfolded across multiple locations, including Nassawadox, Hare Valley, and Birdsnest, creating a sprawling crime scene that shocked the rural county.

The chain of events began when deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the Nassawadox area. Upon arrival, they were met with gunfire from an armed man who fired at two occupied patrol cars, striking one deputy in his ballistic vest. Inside a residence, they discovered Rebecca Knox suffering from gunshot wounds at the threshold. She was transported to a local hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The state medical examiner's office later confirmed that Knox died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled her death a homicide. The violence did not end there, as investigators linked the same suspect to another fatal shooting on Seaside Road in Nassawadox, where his 70-year-old mother, Katrina Henriques, was found dead.

The manhunt for the suspect continued to another location on Parallel Road in Machipongo, where Henriques was reportedly firing at two residences and law enforcement officers. It was there that he was shot by police and taken into custody. In the aftermath of the rampage, Trevor Claude Henriques was charged with a litany of offenses. Initial charges included two counts of attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of attempted aggravated second-degree murder, and one count of possessing a firearm after being convicted of a violent felony. Subsequently, he was charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of his girlfriend, Rebecca Knox, and his mother. He is also facing charges of attempted murder and using a firearm while committing murder. As the investigation continues, authorities have not yet released a motive for the deadly shooting spree. Henriques is currently being held without bond at the Eastern Shore Regional Jail. The case remains an active investigation, leaving a community to grapple with the senseless loss of two of its members.
