In the pre-dawn hours of August 4, 2026, a quiet Tuesday in Portland, Oregon, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 4:10 a.m., multiple calls flooded into 911 dispatch, reporting shots fired near the intersection of South Macadam Avenue and Bancroft Street in the South Waterfront district. A sergeant from the Portland Police Bureau's Central Precinct, on routine patrol, simultaneously discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a building in the 4000 block of South Macadam Avenue. Responding officers, suspecting a connection between the crash and the reports of gunfire, approached the vehicle with caution. Inside, they found the driver, 41-year-old Anwar A. In the early hours of Saturday, August 8, at around 3:30 a.m., Ali was taken into custody by SERT members. After being interviewed by detectives, Mahmoud Said Ali, a resident of Portland, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. He faces charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
