On the morning of June 16, 2026, the life of 27-year-old Freddie Bass of Davenport was tragically cut short. Police were dispatched to the Crowne Forest Apartment Complex in East Moline, Illinois, around 6:30 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Inside one of the apartments, officers discovered Bass suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical measures were taken, and he was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but he did not survive.
The investigation quickly led police to identify a suspect, 21-year-old Anthony L. Tem of Rock Island. A couple of hours after the shooting, around 8:25 a.m., authorities located Tem. A chase ensued, first by car and then on foot, which ended when Tem ran into the Maple Ridge Apartment complex in Rock Island. He surrendered to the police at approximately 9:10 a.m. and was taken into custody. Tem was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Rock Island County Jail. The investigation continued, and less than a month later, a second suspect was apprehended in connection with the homicide. Darien Craig, 21, was taken into custody in Davenport and faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a stolen firearm. He awaits extradition to Rock Island County.
Freddie, known to friends and family as "Kell," was a beloved father, son, and fiancé. A graduate of United Township High School, he was remembered for his bright smile, easy humor, and the joyful nature he brought into any room. His greatest joy was being a father to his five children. The case against the two men arrested in connection with his death is ongoing, with formal charges pending review by the Rock Island County State's Attorney's Office as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
