Jason Hason Hasain Mackey Jr., a 16-year-old male from Dayton, Ohio, died on July 2, 2026, after suffering a gunshot wound inside or near a residence on Ravenwood Avenue. At approximately 7:30 p.m., Dayton police officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Ravenwood Avenue after receiving a report that someone had been shot.
When officers arrived, they found Jason deceased at the scene with what investigators described as a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed that he was pronounced dead that evening. Police initially indicated that the shooting appeared to have been accidental rather than an intentional act.
Although the preliminary circumstances pointed toward an accidental, self-inflicted shooting, homicide detectives were called to the property to document the scene and conduct a formal investigation. Authorities had not publicly explained how Jason obtained the firearm, whether anyone else was present when it discharged, or what evidence led investigators to believe the shooting was accidental.
No suspect has been identified, and no arrest, criminal charge, trial, or conviction has been reported in connection with Jason’s death. The Dayton Police Department continued investigating the incident, but available reports did not indicate that investigators believed another person deliberately shot him.
Jason was born on November 20, 2009. His funeral service was scheduled for July 14, 2026, at the House of Wheat Funeral Home on North Gettysburg Avenue in Dayton, followed by interment at Woodland Cemetery.
