A holiday weekend in Boston was marred by violence that resulted in the death of Travis Deonard Washington, a 24-year-old man from Roxbury. In the early morning hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026, gunfire erupted in the vicinity of 500 Blue Hill Avenue. When police, who were already in the area, responded to the sound of shots, they discovered a chaotic scene with multiple victims.
Three individuals, including Washington, were found suffering from gunshot wounds and were immediately
transported to local hospitals by Boston EMS. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Travis Deonard Washington was pronounced deceased at the hospital. A fourth victim of the same shooting later arrived at a hospital on their own. The other three victims sustained injuries that were considered non-life-threatening. The shooting was one of several violent incidents that occurred over the Fourth of July weekend, which saw a total of five shootings leaving eleven people injured and claiming the lives of both Washington and his cousin, Christopher Washington-Conway, in a separate incident.
The Boston Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting that led to Washington's death. To date, authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the case, nor have they publicly identified any suspects or motives for the shooting. Investigators have made a public appeal for information and have urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the Homicide Unit.
