John Cardoso, a 25-year-old man of Cape Verdean descent, became one of Boston's first homicide victims of the new year on January 1, 2010. The fatal incident occurred in the early morning hours, around 2:15 a.m., in the Dorchester neighborhood. Cardoso was discovered outside 315 Geneva Avenue with gunshot wounds.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Cardoso was quickly transported to Carney Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined that the manner of death was a homicide caused by the shooting.
In the wake of the event, the Boston Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting death of John Cardoso. Detectives from the homicide unit began canvassing the area and seeking information from the public.
