Do you know who murdered Natho C Bellegarde?
In the early evening of September 23, 2015, Natho C. Bellegarde, a 21-year-old Black man, was enjoying a scooter ride with his uncle through the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. They had just left the home of his mother and grandmother on Hartwell Street and made a stop on Intervale Street. The block was filled with people at the time, the day winding down. Suddenly, a man exited a vehicle, approached Natho, and opened fire, shattering the neighborhood's peace.
Boston Police officers responded to a call for a person shot at 96 Intervale Street around 8:40 p.m. They discovered Bellegarde suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined his death to be a homicide. The assailant had fled the scene, leaving behind a community in shock and a family devastated.
Natho was known as a bright and hardworking young man. He was a father to a one-year-old son and worked as a concrete mason. He was also an active participant in the Trinity Boston Foundation's Sole Train, a community-building and mentoring program. In the wake of his death, friends and family remembered him as a respectful person with a huge personality who had matured from a "hot headed teen to a cool and collected young man."
Despite the public nature of the attack, the investigation into Natho Bellegarde's murder has stretched on for years without resolution. Boston Police detectives from the homicide unit have repeatedly asked for the public's help, urging anyone with information to come forward. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his death. His case remains an unsolved homicide, one of the many stories of lives cut short by violence, leaving his family still waiting for answers and justice.
