In a tragic turn of events on May 2, 2026, 28-year-old Gianni Pierre, a Black male, and his 23-year-old brother, Jaheim Pierre, were fatally shot in a Miami, Florida apartment. The brothers had gone to the residence in the 5300 block of Northwest 17th Avenue out of concern for their sister, who had a history of domestic violence with her boyfriend, 31-year-old Antwan Carter.
An argument that began between Jaheim Pierre and his sister escalated when Carter intervened, leading to a physical altercation between the three men.
Following the initial fight, Carter left the apartment and was captured on surveillance video retrieving a 9mm Glock from his car before returning and banging on the apartment door. Despite their sister's pleas not to open the door, one of the brothers eventually did. Carter then allegedly opened fire, shooting both Gianni and Jaheim multiple times. Gianni Pierre was reportedly sitting on the couch when he was shot, while Jaheim ran towards his sister to shield her before collapsing on top of her. After the shooting, Carter allegedly said to his girlfriend, "See what you made me do?".
When police arrived at the scene, Carter reportedly confessed to the crime, stating, "I'm the one. I have the firearm.". Jaheim Pierre was pronounced dead at the apartment, while Gianni Pierre was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. Antwan Carter was arrested at the scene and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He appeared in bond court where a judge ordered him to be held without bond. The case remains an active investigation as the community and the victims' family mourn the profound loss of two brothers who died trying to protect their sister.
