A quiet Sunday morning in Plant City, Florida, was shattered by a horrific act of violence on May 3, 2026, that claimed the lives of four family members across two separate locations, leaving the community in a state of shock and fear. Among the victims was 55-year-old Valerie Monica Deboe, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. The tragedy also took the lives of her 28-year-old daughter, Hailey Megan Dempsey, and two of Hailey's young children, a 4-year-old daughter and a 4-month-old infant. The devastating events unfolded in the early morning hours, leaving a lasting scar on the family and the tight-knit community.

The horrifying events began to unfold when police responded to reports of gunshots in the 300 block of West Tever Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a tragic scene. Hailey Dempsey and her two young children were found with gunshot wounds. The two children were pronounced dead at the scene, while Hailey was rushed to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. A third child was found at the scene physically unharmed. The investigation then led officers to a second location, a home in the 900 block of North Burton Street, approximately half a mile away. Inside this home, they discovered the body of Valerie Deboe, who had also been fatally shot. The two separate crime scenes painted a grim picture of a calculated and brutal attack that targeted multiple generations of the same family.

In the days following the quadruple homicide, the Plant City community was left grappling with fear and a desperate need for answers. Law enforcement has remained tight-lipped about many details of the ongoing investigation, not publicly naming any suspects or making any arrests in the immediate aftermath. It was later revealed that just two days before the fatal shootings, police had responded to a domestic disturbance call at the home Hailey Dempsey shared with her husband, Jay Dempsey. Reports also indicate that Jay Dempsey was initially detained by police but was later released. Neighbors reported seeing him putting on a bulletproof vest and loading a large duffel bag into his car the night before the murders. The lack of a named suspect has left the community on edge, with residents demanding more transparency from law enforcement and increased resources to combat domestic violence. As the investigation into the tragic deaths of Valerie Deboe, Hailey Dempsey, and her two young children continues, a family is left to mourn an unimaginable loss and a community is left searching for justice and a sense of security.
