In the quiet community of Plant City, Florida, a horrifying scene unfolded on May 3, 2026, shattering the lives of a family and deeply unsettling local residents. Hailey Dempsey, a 27-year-old mother, was found shot to death along with two of her young children. The victims of the brutal attack were identified as Hailey Dempsey, her 4-year-old daughter Belle Dempsey, a 4-month-old infant daughter, and Hailey's 55-year-old mother, Valerie Monica Deboe. The bodies of Hailey and her two daughters were discovered in a lot near the intersection of Tever and Wheeler streets, while Valerie Deboe was found shot and killed inside a home about half a mile away. A third daughter of Hailey's was found at the scene, physically unharmed.

In the days leading up to the tragic event, there were signs of turmoil within the Dempsey household. Less than 48 hours before the killings, Plant City police had responded to a domestic disturbance at the home Hailey shared with her husband, Jay Dempsey. According to a police report, the argument began after Hailey Dempsey discovered her husband was watching pornography and had been unfaithful. Hailey's mother, Valerie Deboe, had called the police after hearing the argument over the phone. When officers arrived, both Hailey and Jay Dempsey reported that the dispute had been verbal and had not escalated to physical violence. Following the police visit, Hailey left the residence with her mother.

As of early May 2026, the investigation into the quadruple homicide is ongoing, and no arrests have been made, nor have any suspects been publicly identified by the Plant City Police Department. This lack of information has led to growing frustration and fear among some members of the community. In the wake of the tragedy, there have been public calls for more transparency from law enforcement and for systemic changes to how domestic violence cases are handled by the police department. The case has drawn significant media attention, highlighting the devastating impact of domestic violence. While investigators have stated that they have developed significant leads and do not believe the killings were random acts of violence, the absence of a named suspect or an arrest has left a community searching for answers and justice for Hailey, her two young daughters, and their grandmother.
