On the evening of May 8, 2026, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace at a busy Inglewood intersection, claiming the life of 61-year-old Michael Elridge. A Black male from Adelanto, Elridge was the victim of what authorities have described as a targeted, car-to-car shooting that unfolded around 6:30 p.m. near the Kia Forum at the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Kelso Street.
The brazen attack happened as two vehicles came to a stop, at which point a suspect exited one of the cars, walked over to the driver's side of Elridge's vehicle, and opened fire.
Struck by bullets in his torso and left arm, Elridge managed to drive for about a block before losing consciousness and crashing his vehicle near the intersection of Nutwood Street and Prairie Avenue. A female passenger in his car was left physically unharmed but undoubtedly shaken by the violent encounter. Paramedics and police rushed to the scene, but Elridge succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
