In Des Moines, Iowa, on May 9, 2026, the life of 40-year-old Jessica Henderson was tragically cut short in a devastating act of domestic violence. Jessica had recently ended a relationship with her ex-boyfriend, 50-year-old Abdul Jabbar Jackson. In the time following the breakup, he began to harass and threaten her, with the situation taking a dangerous turn. On April 27th, Jessica contacted the Des Moines police to report that Jackson had sent her messages threatening to shoot her. The very next day, a GPS tracking device was discovered on her vehicle, which was linked back to Jackson. In response to these credible threats, police issued two arrest warrants for first-degree harassment. Jackson was subsequently located and arrested on May 6th. However, in a turn of events that would prove fatal, he posted bond and was released from the Polk County Jail just six hours before he would take Jessica's life.
On that fateful Saturday, in the 800 block of Tuttle Street, Abdul Jabbar Jackson confronted Jessica Henderson. He used a handgun to shoot and kill her, and also shot and killed her dog. A friend of Jessica's who was present at the scene was also fired at by Jackson. After carrying out his horrific attack, Jackson turned the gun on himself, taking his own life at the scene. Police later recovered two handguns from the location. As the perpetrator died by suicide, there were no arrests or trials to follow. The case stands as a murder-suicide, a final, violent act that underscored the tragic reality of domestic violence and its potential to escalate to lethal ends, leaving a family to mourn the loss of a vibrant woman whose life was taken far too soon.
