In the early morning hours of December 19, 2022, a tragedy unfolded inside a home on 53rd Street in Des Moines, Iowa, ending the life of 47-year-old Danielle Remily, a White female. She and her 20-year-old daughter, Emma Parker, were found shot to death in what police would later describe as a double homicide. The incident was a violent conclusion to a domestic situation, leaving a family and community in mourning.
The chain of events began around 3 a.m.
when police received a chilling 911 call. The caller, a male, confessed to having just shot two women and stated his intention to walk to a nearby park to take his own life. When officers arrived at the residence, they discovered the bodies of Remily and Parker, both having suffered fatal gunshot wounds. A search for the suspect led them to a park in the vicinity, where they found a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Jason Rothman. The investigation revealed that Rothman had been in a previous relationship with Emma Parker. He was the primary person of interest in the murders of both Danielle and her daughter. Before he could be formally charged, Rothman succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. With the death of the sole suspect, the investigation concluded without any arrests being made.
