An argument in the early morning hours of May 21, 2026, tragically escalated, leaving 38-year-old Taylor Sylver dead from a gunshot wound on a sidewalk in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. in the 3200 block of North Davidson Street, a bustling area known for its bars and nightlife. Emergency services responded to a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon and found Sylver with a critical gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Detectives began processing the scene for physical evidence and speaking with potential witnesses to piece together the events that led to the fatal altercation. Through their continued investigation, detectives identified 26-year-old Adaysia Yahel Coles as the suspect in connection with Sylver's murder.
On the same day as the shooting, members of the CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, with assistance from the Bessemer City Police Department and the FBI's Safe Streets Task Force, located and arrested Coles in Birmingham, Alabama.
