Direal Antwine Smith, a 37-year-old Black male and father of three, was killed in the early morning hours of April 19, 2026, after gunfire broke out at the Par 4 Bar & Grill on Lankford Highway in Temperanceville, Virginia. The nightspot was reportedly busy when a fight erupted, and within moments the confrontation turned into a shooting that left Smith dead at the scene and several others wounded.
Authorities said the shooting was reported at about 1:41 a.m.
as an active shooter situation. Five adult men were struck by gunfire, while another man suffered a facial laceration. One person was treated and released for a gunshot wound to the arm, another was treated for a gunshot wound to the back, and another victim was flown by Maryland State Police to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for surgery. As EMS workers arrived and stepped out of their ambulance to help the wounded, a gunman allegedly fired toward them. No emergency medical personnel were injured.
Smith was later identified as the man who died in the shooting. He was described in obituary information as a former Eastern Shore resident whose faith had been important to him since childhood, including time spent at Macedonia AME Church, where he sang in the choir. He was remembered as joyful, funny, and devoted to family, someone who enjoyed cooking, laughing with loved ones, playing basketball, and being a present and protective father. He was survived by relatives, friends, and his high school sweetheart, who was also the mother of his children.
Investigators arrested 34-year-old Skylor Depree Crippen of Oak Hall, also identified in some official information as Skylor Dupree Crippen or Skylor Dupree Harmon. Crippen had also suffered a gunshot wound to the foot and was treated before being taken into custody. He was charged with second-degree murder, two counts of attempted malicious wounding or attempted malicious assault of emergency medical personnel, and two counts involving the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or in a threatening manner while committing a felony. He was ordered held without bond at the Eastern Shore Regional Jail or Accomack County Jail.
Court information reported by local media said Crippen admitted to shooting and allegedly made disturbing comments afterward, including laughing about the possibility that more victims might show up at the hospital. He was also accused of saying that somebody “better have died tonight” after seeing stitches to his face. Records further alleged that he admitted to firing wildly as EMTs approached to treat the gunshot wound to his foot.
As the investigation continued, authorities identified a second person they believed was connected to the shooting: 28-year-old Terry Thomas Bragg Jr., also known as “Teezy” or “Teazy.” Investigators said Bragg was identified through witness statements, community information, surveillance footage, and other evidence. His last registered address was reported to be near Norfolk, and authorities said he also had ties to Coweta County, Georgia.
Bragg was being sought on charges including shooting in an occupied building, reckless handling of a firearm, malicious wounding, and possession of a firearm by a violent felon. Authorities described him as armed and dangerous and asked the public for help locating him. As of the latest available reporting, Crippen had been arrested and charged, while Bragg was wanted as a second suspect in the case. The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police continued investigating the shooting and asked anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
