On a Sunday night in Chicago, a mother's phone call with her 20-year-old son, Treyhon McCurdy, turned into a harrowing final conversation. McCurdy was driving in the West Pullman neighborhood on April 26, 2026, when he frantically told his mother, "Ma! Ma! They shooting at me!" before the line went dead. This was the last time she would hear her son's voice.
Police responded to reports of a car crash in the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue around 10:09 p.m.
They discovered a black sedan that had struck a tree. Inside the vehicle, they found Treyhon McCurdy and an unidentified male passenger. Both had sustained gunshot wounds. McCurdy was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The passenger was declared dead at the scene.
The shooting is described as a "meet up with people he didn't know that went wrong." McCurdy was in a car his family had recently gifted him for his birthday. Area Two detectives are investigating the double homicide. As of late April 2026, no arrests have been made, and the shooters remain at large. Investigators are still searching for the person or persons responsible for the deaths of the two men.
