In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026, the life of Christopher Gwynn Tate, a 49-year-old man from High Point, North Carolina, was tragically cut short. Police responded to a 911 call around 1:12 a.m. reporting a shooting in the 200 block of Crestview Drive in Thomasville. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mr. Tate lying in the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation was immediately launched by detectives with the Thomasville Police Department. Through their work processing the scene and gathering information, they identified 48-year-old Jeremy Bell, also of Thomasville, as the individual allegedly responsible for Mr. Tate's death. Bell was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of murder. He is currently being held without bond in the Davidson County Jail and was scheduled for a court appearance on April 27, 2026.
Born on January 1, 1977, in Guilford County, Christopher, known as Chris to his friends and family, was remembered as a resilient and fiercely loyal man with a big heart. His family acknowledged that to some he may have been misunderstood or underestimated, but to those who truly knew him, he was devoted and full of life. He was a man of faith who believed in second chances, not only for himself but for others, often reaching out to those who had lost their way. His obituary described him as having a sharp sense of humor and a playful spirit, a natural jokester who loved to make people laugh.
Chris found joy and peace at his beach home on the North Carolina coast and cherished the time he spent deep-sea fishing with his son and close friends. He had a unique appreciation for the overlooked, with a love for antiques and vintage toys, and a deep compassion for animals. He is survived by his son, Christian, his daughter, Makenna, his parents, Larry and Kathy Tate, his sister, and other loving family members.
