In a quiet, upscale Simpsonville, South Carolina home, a grim discovery was made, revealing a tragedy that had unfolded days earlier. Gloria Jean Dobson, a 73-year-old retired nurse, was found deceased in what the Greenville County Coroner's Office would later rule a homicide. The unsettling event came to light after a concerned relative, unable to make contact with the couple, requested a welfare check.
When deputies arrived at the Appian Way residence, they encountered a somber scene.
Inside, they found Gloria and her 75-year-old husband, Daryl Dobson, both deceased. Investigators determined that they had been deceased for approximately ten days before their bodies were discovered. Further investigation revealed the incident to be a murder-suicide, with Daryl Dobson identified as the perpetrator. The coroner confirmed that Gloria Dobson died from gunshot wounds. Her husband, a retired prison guard, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The tragedy within the home extended beyond the human couple. Authorities also found their two dogs shot to death and a bird that had been decapitated, adding a particularly disturbing layer to the already heartbreaking event.
