In the quiet town of Clinton, South Carolina, the life of 23-year-old Enoshia Ya'Quia Cromer was tragically cut short on the evening of March 29, 2026. Just before 10:00 PM, officers from the Clinton Police Department were dispatched to the Forrest Glen Apartments following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Enoshia, a female resident, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Laurens County Coroner's Office later confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound and officially ruled her death a homicide.
Enoshia, born on July 28, 2002, was a graduate of Hillcrest High School's class of 2019 and had earned her certification as a Nursing Assistant. She was employed at the Westley Commons Community Center in Greenwood and was a mother to her son, EJ. Her sudden and violent death sent ripples of shock and grief through her community, leaving her family and friends to mourn the loss of a vibrant young woman. Her funeral service was held on Good Friday, April 3, 2026, at the Refuge of Worship Ministries, and she was laid to rest in the Orchard Park Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The investigation into Enoshia’s death was a collaborative effort involving the Clinton Police Department, the Laurens County Sheriff's Office, the Laurens County Coroner's Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Investigators quickly identified the incident as isolated, assuring the public that there was no ongoing threat. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect, Jalon Dendy. After extensive efforts to locate him, with assistance from the Greenwood Police Department and the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office, Dendy turned himself in to authorities on the evening of March 30, 2026.
Following his surrender, Jalon Dendy was taken into custody and booked into the Johnson Detention Center. He has been formally charged with the murder of Enoshia Cromer and with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. While an arrest has been made, the investigation remains active as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances that led to the tragic shooting. The community now awaits the progression of the legal proceedings, hoping for justice for Enoshia and her grieving family.
