In the early morning hours of April 2, 2026, 15-year-old Prince Washington was in his bedroom in Fort Worth, Texas, talking to his girlfriend on the phone. Dozens of rounds were fired into his family's home on Glenbrook Lane from the outside. Struck by the gunfire, Prince stumbled out of his room, telling his father, "Dad, I just got hit," before collapsing.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Prince was a student at South Hills High School, where he was a standout basketball player with dreams of one day playing in the NBA. His family described him as a respectful and great kid who loved the Lord. His mother, Mary Blankenship, remembered him as someone who was outgoing and loved everybody, regardless of who they were. His father, James Washington, a local performing artist known as DFW Shaka, believes their home may have been targeted by mistake, as they had only lived there for three months.
In the wake of the shooting, the Fort Worth Police Department launched an investigation that led to the arrest of three suspects. Cesar Andres Horton, 20, Kamron Dominic Lampkin, 19, and Todaireyun Que'Mar Clark, 17, were taken into custody and face murder charges. According to court documents, the three were in a red Honda near Prince's home before the shooting. It is alleged that Horton stopped the car in front of the residence with the headlights off, and Clark got out and fired at the house before they all fled the scene. Two of the suspects were apprehended in Collin County, and the third was arrested in Fort Worth.
