In the early morning hours of Friday, April 3, 2026, a heated argument in a residence on the 600 block of Chester Street in Lufkin, Texas, tragically escalated, ending the life of 43-year-old Korsah Lemar Simmons. Officers responded to the scene around 1:30 a.m. to a chaotic situation, with one person at the home shouting, "he shot my uncle."
Inside the residence, law enforcement discovered Simmons on a bedroom floor, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts and transportation to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. At the scene, police encountered 42-year-old Alex Dewayne Walker outside the home. Walker surrendered to officers, lying face down on the ground with his hands behind his back. A 9mm handgun was subsequently found in his front pants pocket.
Walker was taken into custody and later booked into the Angelina County Jail on a murder charge. During an interview with detectives, he admitted to shooting Simmons inside the house. According to law enforcement documents, Walker confessed to firing the initial shots and then shooting Simmons again in the back of the head while he was already on the ground. The affidavit suggests that Simmons was still alive and speaking to Walker when the final, fatal shot was fired.
Alex Dewayne Walker is being held on a $500,000 bond. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly altercation is ongoing.
