In the early morning hours of April 4, 2026, a bachelor party trip in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, took a tragic turn, ending in the shooting death of 21-year-old Braden Uhlmann. The celebration was being held at an Airbnb cabin where Uhlmann was attending the party of his friend, 22-year-old Nolan Engel.
According to police reports, Engel claimed he heard knocking and saw a shadow outside the cabin, which prompted him to fire a handgun.
Engel and another friend then went outside and discovered Uhlmann on the porch with a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency services were called, and Uhlmann was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers from the McCurtain County Sheriff's Office were met with "spontaneous statements" from Engel, who identified himself as the shooter. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist with the case. Following an initial investigation, Nolan Engel was arrested and booked into the McCurtain County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder.
Engel has since posted a $250,000 bond and has been released from custody. The investigation into the death of Braden Uhlmann is reportedly ongoing. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 28.
