In a tragic turn of events on April 8, 2026, 20-year-old Anterrion Nyree Spencer of Martinsville, Virginia, lost his life after a violent encounter in Rockingham County, North Carolina. The young man, a graduate of Martinsville High School's class of 2024, was remembered for his bright spirit, the warmth he brought into the lives of those around him, and a passion for cooking that he had nurtured since the age of four.
The incident that led to Spencer's untimely death unfolded when he
arrived at UNC Rockingham Health Care in Eden with a gunshot wound. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The Eden Police Department initially responded to the call, but the investigation was soon handed over to Rockingham County Sheriff's Office detectives when it was determined the shooting had occurred within the county's jurisdiction.
The subsequent investigation led to the swift arrest of three individuals. Daniel Ian Woods Jr., 25, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Spencer's death. The narrative provided by Woods' attorney during a court appearance suggested a prearranged meeting for the sale of an Apple iPod took a deadly turn. The defense claimed that Spencer attempted to rob Woods at gunpoint, prompting Woods to draw his own weapon and fire in self-defense.
Two other men, Tristian Giles and Sincere Jamison, were also apprehended in the days following the shooting. Giles, a resident of Virginia, turned himself in to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office and was held on a $110,000 secured bond. Jamison was arrested in Martinsville, Virginia, and was held there without bond. Both Giles and Jamison face multiple felony charges, including possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. The investigation involved the cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Eden Police Department, the Henry County Sheriff's Office, and the State Bureau of Investigation.
