In Rockingham County, North Carolina, on April 8, 2026, the life of 20-year-old Anterrion Spencer was cut short by a fatal gunshot wound. The events of that day began to unfold when Spencer arrived at UNC Rockingham Health Care in Eden with a life-threatening injury. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The Eden Police Department initiated the investigation, but it was soon determined that the shooting had occurred within the jurisdiction of the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office, which then took the lead on the case.
The investigation into Spencer's death quickly led to the identification of several suspects. Daniel Ian Woods Jr., 25, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Subsequently, two other men, Tristian Giles and Sincere Jamison, were also taken into custody. Giles and Jamison face multiple felony charges, including possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. Giles, a Virginia resident, turned himself in to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office and was held on a $110,000 secured bond. Jamison was apprehended in Martinsville, Virginia, and was held there without bond.
During a court appearance for Daniel Woods Jr., his attorney presented a different narrative of the events leading to Spencer's death. The attorney claimed that Woods and two other individuals, including Spencer, had arranged to meet for the sale of an Apple iPod. According to the attorney, Spencer then attempted to rob Woods at gunpoint. It was alleged that Woods, in response, dropped the items, fled, and then drew his own weapon, shooting Spencer. The investigation into the incident involved the cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Eden Police Department, the Henry County Sheriff's Office, and the State Bureau of Investigation. Anterrion Spencer was born on October 11, 2005, and was a graduate of Martinsville High School's class of 2024. He was remembered for his love of cooking, a passion he had since the age of four. He is survived by his parents, siblings, grandparents, and his girlfriend.
