In the quiet community of Valley View, Texas, a Sunday afternoon dispute on April 12, 2026, ended in the tragic death of 43-year-old Brandon Kacey Acker. The Cooke County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call around 3:31 p.m. reporting a disturbance between two men in the 1000 block of County Road 200.
The altercation escalated, resulting in Acker sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency services, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Valley View Police Department, Cooke County EMS, and the Valley View Volunteer Fire Department, responded to the scene. Acker was in "very critical condition" when he was airlifted by a CareFlight helicopter to a hospital in the Denton area. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
Deputies arriving at the scene of the altercation quickly located and arrested a suspect without incident. The individual taken into custody was identified as 54-year-old Wilburn Ernest Ragon, also of Valley View. Ragon was initially booked into the Cooke County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Following Acker's death, the charge was upgraded to murder. His bond has been set at $500,000. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
