In the small city of Sylvester, Georgia, a Sunday afternoon turned tragic on March 22, 2026, ending in the death of 56-year-old Reginald Alford. The incident began to unfold around 3:00 p.m. when officers from the Sylvester Police Department were called to a local hospital after receiving a report of a person with a gunshot wound.
Upon their arrival, they found Reginald Alford suffering from a gunshot injury. Despite medical efforts, Alford succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Investigators soon determined that the shooting had not occurred at the hospital but at a different location, and that Alford had been driven to the hospital after the fact. Further reports indicated the shooting took place at a local Walmart.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was brought in to assist the Sylvester Police Department with the case. Their investigation quickly led to the identification of a suspect. On the same day as the shooting, Daktavius Antuan Tyler, a 32-year-old resident of Sylvester, was arrested in connection with Alford's death.
Tyler was subsequently charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, and two counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Turner County Jail. An autopsy for Reginald Alford was scheduled to be performed at the GBI Crime Lab in Macon to formally determine the cause of death. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact the GBI or the Sylvester Police Department.
