In the late hours of November 1, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the night's quiet at an apartment complex on East Welch Street in Sylvester, Georgia. When police arrived around 11 p.m., they discovered 32-year-old Kentravis Kwane Rutland suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed him to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in nearby Albany, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he died shortly after arrival. Rutland was an African American male.
Born in Sylvester on April 26, 1990, Kentravis was known as a dedicated family man who was educated in the Worth County Public School System. His life was tragically cut short in an act of violence that remains unsolved. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has joined the Sylvester Police Department in their efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
As of early 2026, the investigation into Rutland's murder is still active and ongoing, with no arrests having been made. The suspects responsible for his death remain at large. In an effort to generate new leads, the GBI has offered a reward of $5,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of the individual or individuals who committed this crime. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward as a community and a family await answers and closure.
