In the early hours of March 22, 2026, the sounds of celebration at a private party in Clovis, New Mexico, were violently shattered by a barrage of gunfire. Just after midnight, at an event center located at Grand and Calhoun Street, a drive-by shooting targeted the gathering, leaving a scene of chaos and tragedy. When the shooting stopped, 21-year-old Lyrasha Haskins, a female attendee, was found deceased, her life cut short by the senseless act of violence.
Four other individuals were also struck by bullets, their injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening. Among the wounded was a 17-year-old girl who was rushed to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, for urgent medical care.
The Clovis Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit immediately launched a homicide investigation into the death of Lyrasha Haskins. Investigators determined that the shots were fired from the street into the building where the party, reportedly called "Project Drunk," was taking place. In their search for evidence, law enforcement recovered 22 bullet casings from the area, a testament to the intensity of the attack. The community was left in shock and mourning over the tragic loss of a young life.
As the investigation progressed, information led police to a residence on State Street where eight individuals who had attended the party were located. The presence of a SWAT team signaled the seriousness of the lead, and the eight individuals were detained for questioning. A search of the house uncovered a cache of illegally modified firearms, including four pistols and a rifle, all converted to be fully automatic. Despite this discovery, the ammunition at the residence did not match the casings found at the scene of the shooting. While three people were arrested in connection with the illegal weapons found during the search, the Clovis Police Department has made it clear that no arrests have been made directly related to the homicide of Lyrasha Haskins. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with authorities appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for her death.
