Hidalgo County Sheriff's deputies were initially called to the
10500 block of Highway 107 for a neighbor dispute, but the individuals at the scene were uncooperative, and the deputies departed. The fragile peace was shattered shortly before 8:00 p.m. when multiple 911 calls reported shots fired at the same location. Upon their return, deputies discovered a chaotic and tragic scene with several people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders and law enforcement officers immediately began life-saving measures. Three individuals, Valente Trevino, 41, Eliazar Gabriel Martinez, 36, and Juan's wife, 33-year-old Jacklyn Marie Ortiz, were pronounced dead at the scene.
