Ali Hababi, age 30, was shot and killed on April 6, 2011, while working at his deli, the Union Supermarket, located at Masten and Riley Avenues in Buffalo, New York. The fatal shooting occurred during the evening hours and was believed to be an attempted robbery that went wrong. Hababi was well-liked in the community, known for his generosity and efforts to improve the neighborhood. Despite an investigation into the crime, no suspects were immediately identified, and the case remained open.
