In a tragic turn of events on a Tuesday evening in Rock Hill, South Carolina, 4-year-old Jakolby Clifton lost his life after being caught in the crossfire of a shooting. The incident, which occurred on February 17, 2026, also resulted in the death of his 19-year-old half-brother, Jamareon Kimble. The shooting took place at a home on Frank Street where an argument between Kimble and another man escalated into deadly violence.
Authorities who arrived at the scene around 7:40 p.m.
discovered two men and the young child with gunshot wounds. Investigators believe a fight that began inside the residence spilled outside, with shots continuing to be fired. Jakolby, who was simply in the home, was struck by the gunfire. Neighbors reported hearing at least eight gunshots and witnessed attempts to save the young boy's life.
Police subsequently arrested 34-year-old Cedrick Creighton in connection with the double homicide. Creighton has been charged with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain crimes. At the time of the shooting, Creighton was on supervised release for a domestic violence charge and had been released from prison the previous October.
The community has been left reeling from the senseless loss of a young child and his teenage brother. Relatives and community leaders have expressed their heartbreak and are urging for peaceful conflict resolution. A pastor who is officiating the funeral services for both brothers mentioned that the family is in a fragile state and has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses as they did not have insurance. The pastor also indicated that Jamareon Kimble may have been defending his mother during the altercation that led to the shooting.
