In a tragic incident on January 21, 2026, a 54-year-old man, Jose de Jesus Eguia Rosas, was fatally shot in his Santa Fe, New Mexico, residence. The unfortunate event unfolded on Zepol Road when a bullet, believed to have been discharged from a neighboring apartment, struck and killed him.
Responding to a report of a deceased male, Santa Fe police discovered Mr. Eguia Rosas inside his home.
During their investigation, detectives found a bullet hole that appeared to originate from the adjacent apartment. This led them to question the neighbor, identified as 30-year-old Kristjan Lucano.
During questioning, Mr. Lucano admitted to unintentionally discharging the firearm while handling it in his residence. Authorities reported that Mr. Lucano failed to report the discharge and did not check on the welfare of the occupants in the neighboring apartment. Following the investigation, Kristjan Lucano was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including involuntary manslaughter.
Jose de Jesus Eguia Rosas, who also went by the nicknames Chuy or Jesse, was a hardworking man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a fan of the Houston Astros and Club América and enjoyed watching television series and action movies. His family is making arrangements to transport his body back to Texas for final goodbyes and burial.
