In the early morning hours of Sunday, February 1, 2026, a birthday celebration in Fordyce, Arkansas, turned tragic, ending in the shooting death of Jerron Lucus Sr. Authorities were called to the scene following reports of gunfire and discovered Lucus Sr. had sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the location of the party. The male victim's age and ethnicity have not been publicly released.

The investigation into the homicide was immediately launched by the Fordyce Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office. According to Dallas County Sheriff Mike Knoedl, the initial stages of the investigation proved to be challenging due to a lack of cooperation from individuals who were in attendance at the birthday gathering. In an effort to build a more robust case, the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division was brought in to assist with the investigation.

Through the collaborative efforts of local and state law enforcement, a suspect was identified. Ladarius Deshon Johnson, a resident of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, was named in connection with the fatal shooting. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was subsequently apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Following his arrest, Johnson was transferred to a detention facility outside of Dallas County, as a family member of the victim was being held at the local jail. Sheriff Knoedl stated that Johnson would remain in custody until his first court appearance. Further details regarding the motive for the shooting or the specific charges filed against Johnson have not yet been made available to the public. The investigation is considered to be ongoing.
