In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Las Vegas, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragic event that claimed the life of 3-year-old Kentre Quinn Allen Baker and his father, Quinton Baker. The incident unfolded at the Parkside Villas apartment complex on South Maryland Parkway.
The boy's mother, Raneka Pate, had called the police for assistance, reporting that her partner was battering her and attempting to leave with their son.
She also informed the authorities that Quinton Baker had fired a gun in the parking lot before returning to their apartment.
When officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene around 1:20 a.m., they found that Quinton Baker was inside the apartment with Kentre and was armed. As police established a perimeter, the situation intensified when Baker emerged from the residence, allegedly holding his son at gunpoint.
According to police, Baker held the young boy hostage, prompting officers to open fire. Authorities stated that the father shot his child, and in the exchange of gunfire, Quinton Baker was killed by the police. However, the boy's mother, who witnessed the event from a police car, has disputed the official account of what transpired. The a 3-year-old was lost to gun violence on February 3, 2026.
