In the early hours of January 2, 2026, the life of 17-year-old Lamar Dominic Miller Jr. was tragically cut short in Indianapolis, marking the city's first homicide of the new year. Around 12:45 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of a single-car crash in the 800 block of North Tuxedo Street, near 10th Street and North Sherman Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Miller Jr.
inside a vehicle that had struck a tree.
Initially treated as a traffic accident, the situation took a grim turn when first responders realized the teenager had sustained a gunshot wound. Miller Jr. was the sole occupant of the car and was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Marion County Coroner's Office later officially identified him.
Raised by his grandmother, Lamar was a student at Warren Central High School and was described by those who knew him as a kind and respectful young man with a passion for cars. He was involved with the Warren Wrestling Academy, and his mentor remembered him as having an impressive knowledge of automotive mechanics. His family expressed their profound grief, stating that his life was stolen from him and that he had a future planned.
The IMPD homicide unit is leading the ongoing investigation into Miller Jr.'s death. At this time, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released any information about potential suspects or a motive for the shooting. Detectives have been canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and any available video footage that might shed light on the events leading to the fatal shooting.
