Virender Singh, a 38-year-old man from Greenwood, Indiana, was pulled into a night that began like a celebration and ended in gunfire. Late on January 10, 2026, a large birthday party was underway at a home in the Cherry Tree Walk neighborhood, in the 900 block of Bent Branch Circle, when an argument erupted and quickly turned volatile.
As the dispute escalated, investigators said the confrontation involved two armed individuals, and shooting broke out amid the crowd.
When Greenwood police arrived around 11:30 p.m., they found multiple people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. In all, four people were determined to have been shot in connection with what happened at the house.
Singh was rushed from the scene to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, but he later died from his injuries. Another man was pronounced dead at the home that night and was later identified by the coroner as Kuldeep Singh of Greenwood. Officials said autopsies were performed as the investigation continued to sort out precisely how the violence unfolded and who fired which shots in the chaotic moments inside and outside the residence.
Two other victims survived. One was taken to Eskenazi Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. Another, a 23-year-old, arrived at St. Francis Hospital with a gunshot wound and told officers he had been shot at the Bent Branch Circle location, driven there by a friend in the frantic aftermath.
In the days immediately following the shooting, public updates focused on identifying the dead and urging witnesses to come forward, rather than announcing arrests. Police statements described the shooting as stemming from an argument between armed individuals, but authorities had not publicly named a suspect or filed charges in the initial reporting, instead asking anyone with information to contact investigators.
